Weekly Lesson Plans
Weekly lesson plans include a variety of indoor and outdoor activities. Weather permitting, children play outdoors twice each day. Our close proximity to the center of town gives us access to a wide variety of parks, playgrounds, ball fields and a college campus within walking distance. The main street in town provides many opportunities to visit shops, the train station, the museum and the movie theatre whuch offers free summer viewing. Balanced Activities Structured and unstructured activities are balanced throughout the day and children are encouraged to choose among several areas for play and learning. Within these learning areas teachers are on hand to extend play, language development and creative thinking. Exploration is Encouraged Teachers also create their own activities, often in response to the children’s interest or to enhance children’s exploration of science, language, math concepts, literacy, art, music, movement and dramatic play. Teacher planned activities are conducted with individual children, in small groups, and occasionally with large groups of children. |
Skills
Teachers use our very popular cooking experiences to teach language, math, science, nutrition and emergent literacy skills which occur within the context of just about any cooking activity. Facilitating Development Facilitating children’s social and emotional development is an important component of our curriculum. The development of meaningful relationships, managing frustration and disappointment, and conforming to social expectations are as critical to school achievement as mastery of academic skills. Every day routines and interactions provide alert and sensitive teachers opportunities to use instances of misbehavior as occasions for teaching children to manage their behavior, empathize with others and negotiate disagreements. |
